Prong-Horned Antelope

Dicranocerus furcifer

Retaining the cervine form more than other antelopes, the prong-horned antelope of the northwest United States has a slender head, large eyes, long limbs, black horns rising with a forward bracket-shaped prong, and brittle spongy hair like the moose. Clear yellowish-brown above, paler on the sides, with pure white chest, belly, and rump, it frequents open prairies and low hills, possesses speed beyond any other plains animal, and is drawn within shot by curiosity.
