Gnoo
Catoblepas Gnu
Of decidedly bovine aspect with an ample flat forehead, flattened horns bending forward, down and up, a broad muzzle, shaggy forward-curving face hair, a rigid mane and a hairy dewlap, the gnoo is yellowish tawny darkest on back and legs with whitish-tipped mane, dewlap and tail. Inhabiting the plains of central and southern Africa among zebra, quagga and ostrich, it is extremely swift, sportive and restless, its cry resembling a bull’s bellow.
